Hush To Watch Bridge Move

November 19, 2011

Virginia, ZArchive (Old Blog)

There was some excitement yesterday at work!  The footbridge going over to the island is needing replacement.  Construction has been going on for several months to put up a new one (I believe it is temporary, but am not certain) and yesterday was the day the new bridge was moved into place.

I am thankful for the co-worker on the other side who ran over to get us so we could watch.  There was a hush in the crowd at the window as we watched the very delicate movements of the crane operator as the bridge was lifted up, swung over the canal, and gently put into place in the exact location that was needed.  We stood there for the longest time as for nearly everyone, it was something we’d never seen before and would not see again.

Here is a short selection of photos that I took from both the upper window and later, from the path on the island.  If you want to see the entire event, check out my Shutterfly album.  If for some reason that link doesn’t work, try this one instead.

Do you remember the erector sets from way back? LOL! From your distant perspective it seems like a toy. Though I must say this bridge is far more elegant in design and structure. What a fun event to witness! ~ Lynda

That’s exactly what it looked like, especially with being six floors up. I don’t usually use my long lens at work as it attracts too much attention when I take my walk at lunch, but I was sorry I didn’t have it Friday.

It is so fun to see how you will use each word. This was very interesting; both the story and the photos. Thank you for sharing it. I look forward to see what you will do with MOO. :)

Cool. I love it when I catch something like this happening. I like your pumpkin header. I don’t know how long it’s been there, but it’s nice.

I changed it to the pumpkins a week or so ago. We were on vacation when November 1 rolled around, so I didn’t do as timely as I expected to.

Glad you enjoyed seeing the bridge.
