Landscape Design in the Front Yard

Landscape (from Wiktionary) – A space, indoor or outdoor and natural or man-made (as in “designed landscape”).

It’s actually pretty hard to keep the landscape looking nice in the brutal summer heat of central Virginia.  Here’s a snapshot of the front yard the year that I tried some edible landscaping – those big leaves under the holly bushes?  They were actually summer squash, but from the front it looked like a nice ornamental landscape design.

How very, very clever. I’d never have guessed about the summer squash. I live too far north for holly to over winter but I love the combination in your photo.

It really was cool. Our neighbors had no idea until my husband blabbed. I didn’t do it last summer (lack of time) but will probably try again this year.
