Today’s guest post is written by JudithB at I choose how I will spend the rest of my life. I’d noticed her references to Judy Reeves in several of her posts. Although I don’t have this particular book, I have several others by Judy. Judy also does on-line classes at the International Association for Journal Writers.
From JudithB:
Some years ago I bought the kit, “A Creative Writer’s Kit: A Spirited Companion and Lively Muse for the Writing Life” by Judy Reeves. As so often happens it mouldered away in a bookcase for ages and only came to the fore when I recently cleared a lot of books to give to the hospice shop.
This is an interesting and unusual kit in that it not only has a book with prompts and practices for each day of the year; it also has a series of cards giving great advice, hints and ideas. It is also scattered throughout with quotes from well known, published writers that encourage the novice forward.
It really is a useful resource for those of us who want to write.
The cards on the top of the pile as I write this are:
- Don’t judge your writing
- Let go of expectations
- Trust your pen and
- Pay attention
- Being vulnerable on the page.
Each of these have set me off on a course that I hadn’t considered before. And some prompts and practices I have used recently in writing my blog posts are
I would highly recommend this kit and I note it is still available.
[Later note – another book by Judy Reeves was reviewed here.]

Thanks for the reminder! Judith mentioned it previously, and I intended to act on it. Now I have!

I’m glad it helped you out. I have other books of Judy Reeves and have very much enjoyed them.
