Over at Spirit Lights The Way, a recent post commented on the growing trend of bloggers who list links back to multiple blogs – many, many blogs. Some bloggers are genuine in their desire to share, but for many it’s a way to drive traffic and increase advertising revenue. In other words, it’s a form of spam.
One comment in particular caught my attention, from Hudson Howl, in which he described how his bandwidth was hijacked by such a scheme.

You’re welcome. Doing this helps me keep track of things that like this that I want to know and let my readers (most of whom subscribe to both blogs) know about it too.

I do too – it really can be a joy suck. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!

I never realized this. I have gotten a few of these in my spam folder, but could tell they were disingenuous. But the ones that come to my mailbox and linked back to the “string” I thought were a compliment. Hm. Now I know better! Thanks, Nancy.

I thought they were a compliment too, although I was pretty puzzled at how many posts they had there and that they hadn’t visited my blog as far as I knew. I’ve since gone back and unapproved all the ones I could find.

THanks for the heads-up on this. I was wondering what the deal was

You’re welcome. Yeah, I was wondering it too as it didn’t seem on the surface to have any value for them.
